What is osteopathy?
*************************
Osteopathy is a system of health care that focuses on treatment of the physical body, the joints, muscles and connective tissue with ‘hands-on’ techniques.
Osteopaths treat musculoskeletal pain by balancing tissues and normalising function using deep tactile pressure, stretching, manipulation and exercise prescription to mention a few.
On your first visit, a full medical case history will be taken. Examination will be carried out to assess areas of weakness, tenderness, restriction or strain within your body.
The osteopath will make a diagnosis and discuss it with you and if osteopathic treatment is suitable it will be offered to you. Treatment will be aimed at helping to restore normal joint stability and function...
What do osteopaths treat?
********************************
We treat a variety of conditions including:
♣ Back and neck pain
♣ Sciatica
♣ Headaches and migraines
♣ Joint pain (ie. Tennis elbow)
♣ Postural and mobility problems
♣ Sports injuries
♣ Work related injuries
♣ Pregnancy related pain
When a particular area of the body is injured, the body’s natural reaction is to take the pressure off that area to decrease the pain and to allow for healing.
However, if this is prolonged, secondary areas may be affected due to the compensation pattern that occurs (these secondary areas are most commonly the lower back, neck or the other “good” limb).
At westmead osteopathic clinic you will receive the best in holistic health care as your treatment will address your current symptoms as well as the underlying cause in order to promote effective long term relief.
