Description
DONATE BLOOD AND HELP THOSE IN NEED
The Governor-General of Australia, Quentin Bryce, has appealed to all Australians to do "whatever needs to be done" to help the thousands of people whose lives have been shattered by bushfire Feb 2009.
In this spirit, The General League of National Australian-Lebanese NSW & the Future Movement Australia NSW will be holding a Donormobile to collect much needed blood donations.
We urge everybody who is able to donate to attend as this one act of kindness will go a long way to save many lives
The Donormobile Australian Red Cross Blood Donation will be held on:
Date: Saturday 13th of Feb 2010 (RedCross Don't work Sunday 14/2/10)
Time: from 9.15 am to 2.35 pm
Venue: at Punchbowl Community Centre (Carpark)
at 44 Rossmore Avenue, Punchbowl , NSW 2196 Sydney Australia.
I am sure that you are as shocked and overwhelmed as I am in relation to the situation with the devastation of the fires in Victoria last feb 2009. We all feel for any Australian that may have been caught up in the fires and worst still have lost any loved ones.
I am sure you will join me in sending out our heartfelt message to everyone that has been touched by this terrible national disaster.
It is clear that the most appropriate and direct thing to do, is to donate Blood to the Red Cross.
If you feel that is something that you would like to do, I encourage you to consider assisting in this way.
The broader Movement in The General League of National Australian-Lebanese & The Future Movement Australia will be paying its respects to those people lost in the fires on the Blood Donation Day event on Sunday 14th February 2010.
And In Honor of Commemorating the Martyrdom of the Late Prime Minister of Lebanon Rafic Hariri who was assassinated on this particular day 14 of Feb 2005, which is to be held in at 44 Rossmore Avenue, Punchbowl , NSW 2196 Sydney Australia. Punchbowl Community Centre. Hosting the Donormobile on Sunday 14th February 2010 from 9:15am to 2:30pm, to collect donations from The General League of National Australian-Lebanese & The Future Movement Australia Volunteers donors.
As you might know, Australia needs 21,000 donations a week to meet the needs of the community. You can be certain that your involvement in this vital community service will help and save or improve the lives of many Australians.
When disasters like this are in your own country, when it impacts on you and your family, or someone you know, it is so much more difficult to imagine how Australians can endure the harshness of this land.
I read in an article recently, “Tough times don’t last, tough people do” and this is even more true of those wonderful Australians that are working so hard to help rebuild the lives that have been so devastated by these fires.
Best wishes to all members at this time, our thoughts are with anyone that has been impacted by this disaster.
On behalf of The General League of National Australian-Lebanese NSW, & The Future Movement Australia NSW. I would sincerely like to thank the Punchbowl Community Centre Management for their support of the Australia Red Cross Blood Service, and the Australian Community through the hosting of the donormobile. Your Support will greatly facilitate the collection of many blood donations.
God Bless.
Regards,
Fadi El Haje

BEFORE AND AFTER GIVING BLOOD
-------------------------------------------
Hot tips for healthy donating
Here's a few tips to help make your donation experience more comfortable and enjoyable for you.
Before
----------
Make sure you have something substantial to eat before coming in to give blood. This might be cereal and toast for breakfast, or a sandwich at lunchtime but we advise against coming in on an empty stomach.
Also have 3-4 glasses of water, fruit juice or a milk drink before you give blood to ensure your body has plenty of fluid. This helps the blood flow.
Please don't come in if you've got a cold or 'flu, or you've had tummy upset in the past week or so or you've been to the dentist recently. If any of these conditions apply, and you're not sure, just call us on 13 14 95 to make sure. If you need to cancel your appointment, also please call us and we'll re-schedule you for when you're fighting fit again.
Please remember to bring some identification with you on the day. The identification provided must include 3 separate identifiers (e.g. name, date of birth, address, signature, photo if possible)
After
------
As well as enjoying our post-donation refreshments, there's some other things to help you recover as quickly as possible from your lifesaving donation.
Keep up the fluids. Water, fruit juice, coffee, tea, milk drinks and others are all good, but we advise against drinking alcohol for 8 hours after you've given blood.
Also, don't do any heavy lifting with the 'donating arm' in the 24 hours after you've given blood.
If you become unwell in any way soon after giving blood, please do call us on 13 14 95 as soon as possible.
Give blood again
==========
The good news is you can give blood again and help save more lives.
If you're a whole blood donor, you can give blood again in 12 weeks. If you're an apheresis plasma or platelet donor, you can give blood in around 2-3 weeks time.
