He obtained his high school education from the Gerard Institute, an American mission school in Sidon, South Lebanon. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Allepo University in Syria and the American University of Beirut. He also obtained a teacher training diploma in industrial relations from the University of California.
He migrated with his family to Australia in 1964. From 1970-78 he worked as a teacher of English as a second language with the Victorian Department of Education. In 1978 he began work as an assistant supervisor of child migrant education services, in various Australian colleges and universities. During this period he was inspired by the integration policy of Australia and published his first book Lebanon: A course for multicultural education. In 1984 he took an early retirement from education, to take up a managerial position in Oman. He returned to Melbourne in 1988. George was well known for his love of Australia and of Lebanon, he was a patriot and a defender of freedom.
